McCain Foods acquires Belleisle Foods in New Brunswick, Canada
April 9, 2003: McCain Foods has acquired Belleisle Foods Ltd. of Belleisle Creek near Sussex, N.B., a leading manufacturer of frozen Chinese foods, including egg rolls and Chinese entrées.

“We’re pleased to add Belleisle Foods to the growing family of McCain appetizer and snack food operations,” McCain Chairman Allison McCain said in making the announcement.
The acquisition includes the company’s modern 33,000 square foot production facility and the established Belleisle and Diplomat Egg Rolls brands.
The company employs more that 90 people and markets more than 75 products, both frozen and refrigerated, across Canada and in the eastern United States. Products include egg rolls, Chinese food entrées and sauces, stews and meat pies.
Belleisle Foods was founded in 1984 by Peter Pope, who became CEO, and his two brothers, Roy and Fred Pope. Peter Pope has agreed to remain with the company as Executive Vice President during a transition period. Belleisle Foods will become a part of McCain Foods (Canada), the Canadian frozen foods division of McCain Foods Limited.
McCain Foods Limited has production facilities on six continents and employs more than 20,000 people worldwide. McCain is the world’s largest processor of frozen French fried potatoes and a major producer of other quality frozen foods, selling its products in more than 110 countries.
